‘Wheels Up’ as Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, Angel Flight West partner to deliver free air travel to those in critical need.
REDLANDS, California – It will be “Wheels Up” this summer as Hangar 24 Craft Brewery and Angel Flight West take off on a first-time partnership designed to turn craft beer sales into free air travel for those undergoing hardship. Hangar 24 Craft Brewery will donate proceeds of its summertime seasonal Wheels Up Helles Lager to Santa Monica-based Angel Flight West, which organizes flights for people who need to travel long distances to access medical care, as well as flights for kids and teens to attend specialty camps like those for cancer patients and burn survivors, and for individuals escaping domestic violence.
This will be the third consecutive time a Hangar 24 seasonal has been released in partnership with a charity
When Wheels Up six-packs, bombers and pints are sold, the equivalent of one flight mile will be donated to Angel Flight West.
Retail store and tasting room sales of Wheels Up six-packs and 22-ounce bombers will help the cause, as will tasting room pint sales. It will mark the third consecutive time a Hangar 24 seasonal has been released in partnership with a charity, as sales for winter seasonal Chocolate Bomber helped supply over 50,000 meals in South Sudan through Food for the Hungry, while spring seasonal Redlands Red helped supply over 25,000 meals in Riverside and San Bernardino counties through Feeding America.
When Wheels Up six-packs, bombers and pints are sold, the equivalent of one flight mile will be donated to Angel Flight West, which first began in 1983 and currently serves 13 western states, including Hawaii and Alaska. The majority of flights are made by a network of over 1,400 volunteer pilots, who donate their own planes and pay for all out-of- pocket costs. In 2016, Angel Flight West generated over 4,000 flight missions, serving over 1,100 unique passengers, 426 of which were children.
“The partnership with Angel Flight West was a natural, and a worthy one even without the dueling aviation themes,” Hangar 24 owner and brewmaster Ben Cook said. “Giving back to those in need has always been a Hangar 24 priority. And as a recreational pilot myself, it is so rewarding to see an organization like Angel Flight West do so much good through air travel.”

Wheels Up Helles Lager is both low in ABV (4.3 percent) and IBUs (14), making it an ideal summer refresher. The Munich-style lager has a light malty sweetness with a touch of German noble hop, progressing to a crisp, clean finish. Wheels Up Helles Lager has won multiple awards, the most recent a gold from the 2015 Los Angeles International Beer Competition and bronze from the 2016 California State Fair Beer Competition.
